All About Me!
I’m a 40-something geek who has advanced from hacking away on 8-bit computers in the 1980s, through PC software development (both high-level and low-level) in the 1990s, branching into graphic design in the Noughties.
Since early childhood I have had a strong interest in science, science fiction, techology, electronic music and computer graphics. As a result, I have a healthy collection of books and software, and a decidedly unhealthily large music collection, spanning all the way from vinyl through to MP3s.
More recently, I have become interested in the skeptical movement, and somewhat disillusioned with the state of religion, politics and society. To offset this, I try to do as much as I can to make a difference to the world, both by supporting charities and activism and through random acts of kindness for friends.
As a result of having been online for a long time (I got my first dial-up modem in 1989), I have accumulated a lot of experience of the Internet and the effect it has had on society at large. I hope to distill and record for posterity some of this experience, in the hope that it will prove useful and / or thought-provoking to others.
